Some Smart Roadside Towing Tips

When it comes to flat tires, one thing is for sure, it never happens when it’s convenient. It is never expected and it happens when you are in a hurry. For some experienced drivers, changing a flat tire could be a piece of cake. But if you are not one of them, then you should keep reading.

Here are some roadside towing tips:

tire change and repair serviceThe first thing you should do is to check if you have all the necessary tools for the job. You will need a jack, lug wrench, fully inflated new tire, and owner’s manual. In addition to them, you may also need a working flashlight, knee pads, rain poncho, and some gloves.

When this problem happens, you will have to choose a safe place to change your tire. Just make sure your car is as far from the traffic as possible. Once you have stopped far from the other drivers, turn your hazard lights on, and apply the parking break. If you have wheel edges, you can use them too as you don’t want your car to move during that delicate process.

Now, you are ready to remove the hubcap of the wheel cover. Loosen the lug nuts with the lug wrench but don’t remove it completely yet. Place the jack under your vehicle but read the owner’s manual prior to doing that. Some cars have a special place for that. If yours doesn’t, you should select a safe place to do that without causing damage. Next, you can raise it a few inches above the ground and remove the lug nuts completely. Remove the flat tire and put the spare tire according to the manufacture’s instructions.

Your next step is to tighten the new lug nuts by hand but not completely. Lower your vehicle and now, you can tighten them in full. After the job is done, do not forget to collect and store all tools in the trunk again.
